Artist Profiles » Carol Readman
Carol Readman was born in Christchurch, raised in the South Island and trained as a teacher. She left for overseas in the mid 1960’s worked in England and East Africa and travelled in Western Europe.
Carol returned to New Zealand in 1970 and settled in the North Island where she retrained as a social worker and remained in this profession for many years before re-qualifying in personnel management and industrial relations which she practised for some time.
Watercolour painting has been a long-term interest and activity which was self-taught over twenty-five years. Carol participated in several group shows during the 1980’s and in 1986 and won a merit award at the Pumphouse Art Awards (Takapuna). She was highly commended in the Telecom Art Awards 1995; won first prize at the inaugural Depot Art Awards (Devonport) in 1997 and first prize at the Royal Easter Show Art Awards (professional watercolour category) in 2002.
For inspiration, Carol looks to the local surroundings, to places she visits and in general – from the natural environment with which she is very familiar.
