Below is an extract from an article in the Tonight-Independent News-
“My work is another facet of the person I am. I paint what I feel while still drawing reference from that which surrounds me,” she says. “It has it own meaning, it evokes an emotion. I experienced this utter sense of achievement by pushing myself past the boundaries of what society dictates as the norm, looking at things from a different perspective. I become totally absorbed in the process of applying my paint to the canvas, the scraping sound of the palette knife engraving and creating texture, the movement of clean colour simplified by strong shapes. My work becomes my inspiration and my inspiration becomes my work.”
“My work is untainted by the intervention of formal art training. It’s a need to get my thoughts out onto canvas, to create, in the process hoping not to fail the viewer by not delivering a specific or intentional message but rather for the viewer to recapture their own. I embrace my talent and am thankful to be able to continue feeding my passion.
I am in the process of embracing a beautiful new country, New Zealand, which has now become my home. I’ve picked my paintbrush up again to re-start the process and continue with the journey that I started in SA. This is not the beginning of my “art” story it’s the middle, about 14 years. “
