Aroha is a self taught artist who finds inspiration in her family and Maoridom.
Aroha’s Maori heritage has provided a rich pool of knowledge from which to draw, her father has been a strong motivating influence in her life, keeping her ties strong to her Iwi’s, Ngati Kahungunu – Hawkes Bay and Tainui – Waikato area.
Aroha likes to paint real people she knows, often working from photos taken of interesting people, usually Maori people. She likes to portray the Tiki and the Moko as symbols of strength and knowledge.
